Coming Full Circle: A Thank You Note

Although we both love steaks bloody rare, legs shaved daily, and time by the water, the bedrock foundation of our partnership is built on a shared passion for nurturing readers through independent reading.  Yet we didn’t discover this shared passion by working side by side or meeting at a conference. Instead, we first because acquainted 140 characters at a time on the #G2Great twitter chat.

Who knew that regularly liking someone else’s tweets and following their blog could lead to writing a book together? Not us! And yet, here we are. And we can’t quite imagine that it ever would have happened without the #G2Great chat.

If you don’t know about this chat, you’re going to want to check it out. Founded on the tenets of Dr. Mary Howard’s book, Good to Great Teaching: Focusing on the Literacy Work that Matters, the #G2Great is co-moderated by Dr. Mary Howard, Jenn Hayhurst, Amy Brennan, and now Fran McVeigh. This incredible chat draws countless literacy educators across the globe and fosters thought provoking conversation, reflection, and professional learning, week in and week out. And while other chats come and go, #G2Great , now into it’s fourth year, just keeps getting better.

So, on Thursday June 7th, we were humbled and honored to join the #G2Great crew as guest hosts on the chat. What an extraordinary gift it was to be in the presence of teachers from across the country (and maybe even the globe) who are interested in and committed to come to know and nurture readers through conferring.  Check out the slideshow below for a glimpse at some the rich conversation from this chat.

And so our purpose to day is to simply say thank you. Our hearts are full of gratitude and love.

Thank you to teachers everywhere who work to make children’s reading lives more joyful and authentic through conferring. We wrote this book for you.

Thank you to everyone who dedicates time to participate in #G2Great Thursday evenings, bravely growing in the presence of others.

Thank you to all of our #G2Great “cousins” who started out as part of our professional learning network and ended up as family.

Thank you to Stenhouse Publishing for providing 6 copies of our new book to be given away during the chat. Although your generosity is no longer a surprise to us, we are grateful nonetheless.

And of course, thank you to Mary Howard, Jenn Hayhurst, Amy Brennan, and Fran McVeigh for welcoming us home to #G2Great and in doing so giving us the opportunity to share our work and our passion for conferring.

What a gift it is to have come full circle.  We are blessed to learn alongside all of you!
